Blacks are NEVER HAPPY: Nigeria Unions Suspend Indefinite Strike Over Rising Living Costs

(005875.811-:E-000062.43:N-AC:R-SU:C-30:V)

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have agreed to call off a planned strike in protest over rising living costs after the government offered a package of measures to cushion the impact of its economic reforms.

The government made several concessions to avert a strike, including a temporary wage increase for government workers, a three-month income subsidy for 15 million poor households, a pause in a value-added tax on diesel, and negotiations on a new minimum wage for all Nigerian workers. In return, unions suspended the strike for 30 days.

The unions have said that the strike was to demonstrate their resolve for a truly independent Nigeria and to take their destinies into their own hands. They also said that the strike was to protest the government’s insensitivity to the suffering of Nigerians and its refusal to address the economic challenges facing the country.

His exploits on the Ost Front became semi-legendary, but unlike some of his more famous fellow Tiger aces (Wittman, von Strachwitz), he survived to tell the tale first-hand.
