In a spate of arrests where people had to protect themselves or their property from villains, the farmers and people were locked up. Here are a few cases where people have been arrested with no or very little evidence!

Dawie Maree, farmer from Potgietersrus area was arrested this afternoon

What happened?

Dawie Maree, farmer from Potgietersrus area, was arrested this afternoon on his farm near Potgietersrus.

A previous worker showed up to him and insisted on more compensation. After an altercation that Dawie refused to give him any further compensation, Dawie tried to drive away, on which the man tried to push his foot under the van’s wheel. The person in question then left the farm.

Late in the afternoon, police arrived and arrested Dawie. According to police, Dawie wanted to drive over the man and kill him and the ambulance had to pick up the man there!

When asked, Dawie’s workers confirmed that the man’s allegation was false.

According to reports, it sounds like SAPS wants to escalate the case to attempted murder!

Two defendants in Groblersdal assault refused bail

The Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo refused bail to two owners of the security company Piet Groenewald and Stephen Grief. With the verdict, Magistrate Bongi Mashele says it is not in the interests of justice that they be released on bail.

What happened?

“According to the preliminary information, the victim was performing his guard duties at a network tower on Wednesday morning, 17 January, at Kwaggafontein when his supervisor paid an oversight visit. “He then accused the worker of being drunk while on duty, as a result of which he drove with him to Groblersdal to discuss the matter with the driver. ” Upon arrival, the two got into an argument that resulted in the driver hitting the victim with a hard object. “The driver allegedly instructed a male family member to release their dog on the victim. The dog bit the victim on both legs.” According to reports, the worker became aggressive and therefore the measures were employed.

Francois van der Merwe, Willem Petzer, Tewie Wessels and Devon Hofmeyr were arrested after a peaceful demonstration. They were charged with public violence, among other charges. There is no evidence of public violence.

Two farmers arrested after they clash with cattle thieves

What happened?

Farmer Hermanus De Laray (52) and farm manager William Underhay (40) were arrested after two suspects, Sthembiso Mbuyiseni Mnikathi (30) and Buhlebekhaya Ximba (30), disappeared on 19 May last year. Spot. Police spokesman Donald Mdhluli said five suspects were caught illegally hunting the farm on that day during the evening. Shots were reportedly fired. Three of the suspects fled the scene while two disappeared. The investigation into the incident found that De Laray and Underhay became involved in a shootout with the suspects during which the suspects may have been shot dead. Mdhluli said police allege that De Laray and Underhay probably disposed of the bodies somewhere far from the farm. De Laray and Underhay were arrested on Jan. 18 this year on charges of murder and obstruction of justice. They have since been in custody and heard in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 20 February that their bail application was unsuccessful The case has been postponed to March 20 for further investigation. Further charges may be brought against De Laray and Underhay
