An Alberton man was bludgeoned to death with a hammer on Tuesday morning and his gardener has been detained for questioning, police said.
The man’s girlfriend was also attacked and is in hospital in a stable condition, said police spokesperson Captain Steady Nawa.
Three men attacked the couple while they were asleep around 4am at their house in Martina Oosthuizen Street.
“The suspects allegedly used a key to gain entry as there was no sign of forced entry. The man was bludgeoned to death with a hammer and his girlfriend was also injured,” said Nawa.
The victim’s 40-year-old gardener has been detained for questioning but no arrests have been made.
