[I find it quite amazing the scale on which Blacks in Africa can flee in their tiny conflicts. I am quite sure I understand the mechanisms, yet, even so, I find it astounding. Jan]Ethnic violence has forced about 300,000 Congolese to flee to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province this year alone.
A United Nations humanitarian agency says at least 1.6 million people have been displaced since 2017.
Violence has been escalating in the past few months despite the government declaring a state of emergency.
Al Jazeera’s Catherine Soi reports from a camp for displaced people in the Ituri provincial capital, Bunia.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Kinshasa, DR Congo, the DROC, or simply either Congo or the Congo, and historically Zaire, is a country in Central Africa. The capital is Kinshasa.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is extremely rich in natural resources but has suffered from political instability. As of 2018, around 600,000 Congolese have fled to neighbouring countries from conflicts in the centre and east of the DRC. Two million children risk starvation, and the fighting has displaced 4.5 million people.
