In that ‘nice African’ that sounds so refreshing to me, there is a very spicy expression for ‘ collapse ‘: beating bollemakisie . The reader of this may now smile quietly about that, but anyone who tries to find a good bread on the shelf in today’s corona land in the once lucrative tourism company, sees nothing but snow: black snow. I will come back to that black. The columnist is not surprised. She absolutely calls the ANC government ‘race-bred’ and while that is sometimes covered up in sweet talk, the ideological core is one of transformation. Monica subtly refers to the volleyball team that lost its title because the players were not classified in the politically correct black-and-white ratio in the name of common non-raciality and justice. In the same vein, in the midst of the corona crisis, the government insisted that all social aid should be centralized, so that it could be distributed evenly (ie according to race). The ANC government has long ceased to be the government of all citizens in South Africa. In the beautiful presidential words and speeches she rules only for the black citizens and in the policy actually only for a small heap of political elite. Hence the proposed tourism fund with strict conditions, including that the company must be in black possession. The whole set of conditions is so inclusive that they exclude … 93% of existing tourism businesses and, in one fell swoop, 93% of their predominantly black workers. Speaking of irony, the government’s tough stance against itwitmen in tourism, ultimately also affects the most defenseless in society. So what the government is doing with tourism is not in principle unethical, but is also unethical in the results.

In conclusion – hard but logical – as a minority against a government that only rules for the majority, white companies in tourism and elsewhere have only one view of survival: DO THIS SELF !!!!

In die ‘lekker Afrikaans’ dat mij zo verfrissend in de oren klinkt, bestaat er voor ‘in mekaar stuiken’ een heel pittige uitdrukking: bollemakisie slaan. De lezer dezes mag daar nu rustig om glimlachen, maar wie in hedendaags coronaland een bete broods op de plank probeert te scharrelen in het ooit lucratieve toerismebedrijf, ziet niks anders dan sneeuw: zwarte sneeuw. Op dat zwarte kom ik nog terug. Nu eerst even melden, om een en ander toe te lichten, dat het aan tal buitenlandse bezoekers aan Zuid-Afrika in december 2020 bollemakisie is geslagen met -86% in vergelijking met december 2019! Wat betekent dat in naakte getallen? Dat betekent dat het aantal bezoekers uit het buitenland in december 2019 van over de 250.000 ineengestuikt is naar een armtierige 36.357 een jaar later…

Uiteraard denkt nu de snuggere lezer aan al die (te) strenge grendelregels, vooral voor toegang tot parken en stranden. En ja, de regering heeft inderdaad kans gezien om op die terreinen enig herstel van het toerismebedrijf te – wéér zo’n pittig woord – kniehalter. Welk bedrijf is bestand tegen een omzetverlies van 85% en dat meer dan een jaar aan een stuk? De gehaaide journaliste Monica Mynhardt noemt het klaar als daglicht dat in haar land het toerisme ingeplof is en heel dringend hulp nodig heeft om boven water te blijven. En dààr voelt de sector het schoentje – zeg maar de schoen – knellen. De ANC-regering denkt naar niet-loffelijke gewoonte, niet aan repareren maar aan transformeren. En daarmee ben ik opnieuw bij die zwarte sneeuw terechtgekomen. Als een eigenaar in het toerismebedrijf geholpen wil worden in Mandela’s Natie van de Regenboog, dan moet die zwart zijn. Monica noemt die ANC-maatstaf zo moreel aanstotelijk als een paramedicus die op een treinongeluk afkomt en alleen de slachtoffers helpt die zwart zijn. Logisch? Laat het nu precies dat soort ‘logica’ zijn dat voor de regering de enig juiste is. Nochtans erkent de regering daarmee ruiterlijk dat ‘witte’ mensen niet dezelfde achting, hulp en sympathie verdienen als zwarte mensen.

De columniste toont zich niet verbaasd. Zij noemt de ANC-regering absoluut ‘rasbehept’ en hoewel dat soms verdoezeld wordt in mooipraatjes, is de ideologische kern er een van transformatie. Monica verwijst daarbij fijntjes naar de volleybalploeg die haar titel is misgelopen omdat de spelers niet in de politiek-correcte zwart-wit verhouding waren ingedeeld uit naam van de geplogen niet-rassigheid en rechtvaardigheid. In diezelfde lijn heeft de regering er, in volle corona-crisis, op aangedrongen dat alle maatschappelijke hulp gecentraliseerd moest worden, zodat die hulp gelijkmatig (d.w.z. volgens ras) uitgedeeld kon worden. De ANC-regering is al lang geen regering meer van àlle burgers in Zuid-Afrika. In de mooie presidentiële woorden en toespraken regeert zij enkel voor de zwarte burgers en in het beleid eigenlijk enkel voor een klein hoopje politieke elite. Vandaar het voorgestelde toerismefonds met strikte voorwaarden, o.a. dat de onderneming in zwart bezit moet. De hele reeks voorwaarden is zo inclusief dat ze… 93% van bestaande toerismebedrijven uitsluiten en in één klap ook meteen 93% van hun overwegend zwarte werknemers. Van ironie gesproken, de harde opstelling van de regering tegen witmense in het toerisme, treft uiteindelijk ook de meest weerlozen in de samenleving. Wat de regering met het toerisme uitspookt is dus niet in principe onethisch, maar is ook onethisch in de resultaten.

Slotsom – hard maar logisch – als minderheid tegenover een regering die slechts voor de meerderheid regeert, hebben blanke bedrijven in het toerisme en elders slechts één uitzicht op overleven: DOEN DIT SELF !!!!
