League welcomes passing of budget, but says DA demonstrated clear pattern of opportunistic and bad-faith negotiations

ANCYL statement on the passing of the 2025/26 Budget and call for the removal of all DA Minister and Deputy Ministers

2 April 2025

The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) welcomes the passing of the 2025/26 budget, a critical step towards providing much needed and essential services to the people of South Africa. The adoption of this budget is vital for addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by our nation, including high unemployment, growing inequality, and the declining affordability of basic goods and services.

However, we are deeply concerned by the actions of the Democratic Alliance (DA) within the Government of National Unity (GNU). The DA has demonstrated a clear pattern of opportunistic and bad-faith negotiations, attempting to pass off policies that are harmful to the poor and marginalized, all in exchange for their support in passing the budget. This approach undermines the integrity of the GNU and fails to prioritise the needs of the majority of South Africans.

While the DA claims to represent the interests of marginalized communities, its opposition to the VAT increase is not rooted in a genuine desire to help the poor. Instead, the DA proposes a 24% reduction in government spending, particularly in social spending and infrastructure investment, policies that would disproportionately affect the most vulnerable sectors of our society. The DA is more concerned with serving narrow, partisan interests than with advancing the common good of all South Africans.

The ANCYL will never compromise on policies that provide opportunities and relief to those who need them the most. As the youth wing of the ANC, we are deeply committed to the transformative vision of the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), which seeks to uplift South Africa into a just, equal, and prosperous society for all. We stand firm in our resolve to challenge forces that threaten the values of equality and social justice.

We unequivocally support the President of the ANC and his leadership in steering the country towards progressive change. We remain undeterred by those who seek to undermine his leadership within the ANC caucus. We call for a thorough investigation into the leakists within the caucus, as their actions are counterproductive and detrimental to the unity of our movement. Those found to be responsible for such misconduct must be removed, as their behavior only serves to disrupt the positive trajectory of our organisation.

Considering the DA’s continued undermining of these principles, we call for the immediate removal of all DA Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the GNU. The DA’s actions, especially Is selective governance and policies of exclusion, are detrimental to the unity and future of our country. The DA’s involvement in the GNU is not reflective of shared values, but rather of opportunistic politics that serve to weaken the broader vision of inclusive governance.

Furthermore, we acknowledge that the ANC has not fully communicated the dangers of the DA’s proposals to the people. As the ANCYL, we are committed to amplifying the voice of the youth and ensuring that the public understands the implications of the DA’s policies, which consistently undermine the dignity, equality, and rights of the poor and marginalized.

We will take the lead in driving this narrative, educating our communities, and highlighting how the DA’s actions fail to represent their best interests.

As progressives, we remain committed to the transformative goals of the NDR and to delivering for the people, especially the poor and marginalised. We will not be distracted by the divisive agenda of a party that is unable to provide a clear, principled vision for a united South Africa.

Issued by Mntuwoxolo Ngudle, Secretary General, ANCYL, 2 April 2025

Video & Audio: South Africas most important election in 30 Years of Black Rule
The election that happened in SA in 2024 was bizarre, and Black politics collapsed on a scale never seen before. There is huge turmoil in Black politics, and Jewish billionaires as well as their puppet, the Black Jew Ramaphosa caused it all.
