My Lewe en Strewe (My Life and Endeavors)

This is an excellent Afrikaans book written in 1939. Manie Maritz is a very interesting Boer. He fought in the 2nd Anglo Boer War. In WW1 he was a Lt Colonel in the South African Army. He was pro-German. When he was ordered to take part in the invasion of German South West Africa, he and 12,000 other Boers rebelled. The rebellion was later named after him. When he returned to South Africa in 1923 he was arrested and charged with high treason. He was convicted and sentenced to three years' imprisonment. During the 1930s, Maritz became a Nazi sympathiser and was known as an outspoken proponent of Hitler's Third Reich. In this book he also discusses the Jews.
