US Ultimatum: Four Preconditions to Restore Relations
Recent reporting (26–27 June 2025) reveals that U.S. officials communicated four key conditions to a delegation of Afrikaner leaders—likely relayed to the South African government—as prerequisites to normalizing relations:

1. Make farm attacks a national priority crime.
2. Publicly condemn the “Kill the Boer” chant as incitement.
3. Ensure land expropriation includes fair market compensation.
4. Exempt U.S. businesses from BEE requirements

These demands were reportedly repeated multiple times to South African authorities

Is the U.S. Following Up?
U.S. Embassy action: In April, the embassy in Pretoria formally condemned the chant “Kill the Boer” as incitement to violence

Marco Rubio’s stance: In March, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio called the chant a “call to violence,” urging SA officials to act

Executive Order impact: A prior Trump Executive Order (Feb 2025) halted U.S. aid (with the exception of HIV/AIDS support) pending tangible changes on those fronts

That indicates sustained diplomatic pressure and some operational follow-through.

SA Government’s Response
Land expropriation defense: SA President Ramaphosa and the government defend the Expropriation Act (2024), asserting that “no land has been confiscated” and that compensation, while possibly zero in select cases, remains lawful

Legal pushback: The Democratic Alliance has mounted a constitutional challenge to the Act

Silence on the chant: South Africa’s government has not publicly denounced the chant; criticism points to a lack of official government reaction after the international outcry

No formal public reply from SA acknowledges the four demands outlined by the U.S.

The Whites Who Went to Washington:

1. Dr. Corné Mulder (Freedom Front Plus leader)
2. Dr. Theo de Jager (Chairman of the Southern African Agri Initiative, SAAI)
3. Gerhard Papenfus (CEO, National Employers’ Association of South Africa, NEASA)

This trio met with senior officials from the U.S. Vice President’s office, National Security Council, and Homeland Security Council, conveying America’s four conditions: condemning the “Kill the Boer/Farmer” chant, classifying farm attacks as priority crimes, ensuring fair compensation for land expropriation, and exempting U.S. businesses from BEE restrictions
