A man in his twenties was shot and killed in a drive by shooting on Westbrook Drive in Oaklands, Verulam in Kwazulu Natal on the morning of Saturday 12 December 2020.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to a residential property at approx 02:09 after receiving multiple calls from residents in the area reporting a shooting.
On arrival a man who is believed to be in his twenties was found lying in the balcony with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Paramedics.
It was established that the deceased was a private security officer employed by the homeowner to safeguard the premises and the occupants. Witnesses reported seeing a man seated at the back of a white Isuzu double cab bakkie opening fire on the residence. The bakkie sped off in an unknown direction following the incident.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage.
