The uMkhonto Wesizwe party saw its second ward councillor elected as it turned the tables on the ANC and the EFF in Rustenburg, North West.
The DA had a barnstorming night in Gauteng and the Western Cape, winning a Citrusdal ward off the ANC, but the party lost an important eThekwini seat to an independent candidate.
