[This stupid name in this article of Tshwane, is actually the name for Pretoria – the capital city. Jan]
Residents of South Africa’s city of Tshwane in Gauteng province, have been urged not to drink tap water, as the Gauteng health department awaits test results from the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, after the deaths of 12 people from suspected diarrhoea. Survivors are being treated at the Jubilee District Hospital in Tshwane.
At least 52 water tankers have been dispatched across Hammanskraal in the City of Tshwane, where residents have been advised to boil water before using it, until the test results are received. Tshwane Health MEC Rina Marx has said that clean drinking water would be supplied to informal settlements for the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, the United Nations said a billion people in 43 countries are at risk of cholera and though the outbreaks could be stopped, the UN said resources necessary to do so, are lacking.
