Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp – Deon Nel van Wolmaransstad’s disappearance has captured readers’ imaginations for the last two weeks.
The question on everyone’s lips is what happened to the 30-year-old farmer and how could he just disappear without a trace? Klerksdorp Rekord heard this week that the search for him is currently focusing on an unused ventilation shaft outside Stilfontein on the Vermaasdrifpad which is 1.8 km deep.
According to police spokeswoman Col. Adele Myburgh, the police are following up on all leads and this led them to the shaft.
Specialist teams from the police and mine proto teams went some distance down the shaft to look for him after the police received information that his body had been thrown down there. A private detective is helping to look for him and the reward of R100 000 still stands for information that can lead investigators to the 30-year-old farmer. A man and woman who were arrested at a house in Randlespark with van Nel’s belongings, as well as bloodstained clothes that apparently belonged to him, appeared again in the magistrate’s court on Monday 17 July.
