The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) has been accused of carrying out an air strike on a Darfur market in which more than 100 people were reportedly killed.
According to Amnesty International, reports are indicating that military aircraft bombed Kabkabiya’s weekly market when the area was packed with civilians, killing dozens. The attacks are part of a pattern of airstrikes against busy markets in areas controlled by the Rapid Support Forces, which typically occur on a set market day with the apparent purpose of maximizing casualties.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) released a report on December 11 declaring that the 20-month civil war in Sudan has produced "the biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded." The SAF has denied responsibility for the recent attack, describing the allegations as "lies". They said that they believed they had the right to target any region that was occupied by the RSF. RSF has not yet responded.
