2002: 60 of Blacks said life under Apartheid was better
This is a story from Britain on my African Crisis Archive. Of course life was better under Apartheid, but nobody wants to admit that White rule was better. In 2023, Blacks are still realising this truth, but few dare say it.

It is an absolute shame that Lindiwe Sisulu, Minister of Human settlements, Water and Sanitation, launched a racial attack on white people during the Department’s budget vote debate in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in an attempt to divert attention away from the rampant corruption, fraud and mismanagement in her Department.

Her attack on white people was in response to the FF Plus pointing out that water pollution is taking on critical proportions due to a lack of planning and expertise in municipalities and that it poses a threat to the entire population.

During her reply in the debate, Sisulu stated, among other things, that white people are to blame for the unprocessed sewage flowing in the streets and into water systems and, therefore, they cannot complain about it. She, thus, also insinuated that she has no sympathy for the white people affected by this serious problem.

These statements are all the more deplorable as they follow the admission by Susan Shabangu, chairperson of the Department’s Disciplinary Committee, before the parliamentary Portfolio Committee that the Department had suffered an enormous loss of R31 billion due to irregular tenders, corruption and fraud.

Sisulu proceeded and in her tirade, she also stated that the appointment and deployment of (unqualified) Cuban engineers is a constitutional duty that she is obliged to fulfil.

It is astonishing to hear such racially divisive and irrational statements coming from a Cabinet Minister who is supposed to be responsible for heading the Department that must literally ensure the survival and wellbeing of the entire population.

This is also indicative of an ANC government that has completely lost touch with reality and must, therefore, continually fall back on making racist statements to try and cover up its incompetence.

During President Cyril Ramaphosa’s question-and-answer session in the NCOP on Thursday, the FF Plus brought the matter to his attention and demanded that appropriate steps must be taken against Sisulu.

A Department with such a critically important responsibility must not be headed by someone who appears to have no grasp of the significance and extent of her responsibilities.

In the upcoming local government elections, voters must stand up, stand together and use their votes to ensure that the ANC is removed from power.
